People and the Just Transition
People are at the heart of everything we do – from working with communities to build the renewable projects that reduce emissions, to ensuring that our colleagues come home safely from work every day. People enable us to drive the green energy transition that is vital for us and generations to come. Sustainability encompasses more than simply protecting the environment or delivering climate action; it also includes people, communities and delivering for society as a whole.
We deliver more than clean energy — we deliver shared value. Through our projects, we create opportunities for education, health, and local development. Every initiative is designed to strengthen communities and improve quality of life, ensuring that the benefits of the green transition reach people where they live and work.

Communities
Community engagement is at the heart of our sustainability approach. We work closely with local stakeholders to co-design benefit programs such as Community Benefit Funds, infrastructure improvements, and cultural initiatives.
We are implementing a dedicated Community Engagement Strategy to ensure that every action aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This approach integrates sustainability into community benefit programs, fostering meaningful participation and transparent communication while delivering tangible social, economic, and environmental impact.
Through our projects we can support local initiatives in communities via the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS) Community Benefit Fund which can be used for the wider economic, environmental, social and cultural well-being of the local community. With a value of €2 per megawatt hour, some of the community benefit initiatives rolled out as a result of renewable energy projects developed by Statkraft in Ireland include:
• Outdoor amenity areas
• Retrofitting housing schemes
• Energy efficiency schemes
• Educational supports
• Community spaces for locals
• Biodiversity initiatives
