Statkraft preparing 320MW of wind energy for next Irish renewable auction

27 May, 2021

Statkraft has confirmed that it is preparing bids for six wind farm projects, totalling up to 320MW of capacity, for the upcoming Renewable Energy Support Scheme (RESS) auction in Ireland.

Statkraft’s portfolio of six wind projects is the largest eligible capacity of any renewable energy developer in Ireland. It currently holds 500MW of wind energy in the country and has a further 57MW in construction.

Donal O’Sullivan, Head of Development with Statkraft Ireland said, “We are at a crucial stage in our renewable energy development in Ireland. Therefore, I am delighted to be able to announce this very robust portfolio of wind projects that we will be submitting for the RESS auction.

“For these projects, full wind farm planning permissions are in place, grid connection offers are imminent, and all six are completely auction-eligible. Once the auction concludes, we envisage that construction work will start in 2022 for the successful projects.”

O’Sullivan added, “This is a very positive step for Ireland, and for Statkraft, which is very committed to helping the country deliver both on its 2030 and 2050 targets. We have very ambitious plans for the sector, and we hope to continue to deliver many more clean, sustainable energy alternatives for communities right around Ireland.”

The six wind farms being prepared for auction are Cushaling (50MW) and Moanvane (60MW) in Co. Offaly, Drehid (60MW) in Co. Kildare, Pinewoods (50MW) in Co. Laois, Bilboa (21MW) in Co. Carlow and Coole (84MW) in Co. Westmeath.

The auction is due to be held in Q4 2021 or Q1 2022.
