Statkraft’s strategy: Creating value by enabling a net-zero future
At Statkraft, we have been making renewable energy possible for over a century – energy that the world needs now more than ever.
Over the past years, Statkraft has developed into a leading global renewable energy company. We have scaled our business and delivered stable operations and very strong returns to our owner while the world has experienced increased geopolitical tension and extreme events.
Statkraft’s strategy is built on the fundamental drivers of the energy transition – continued growth in demand for renewable energy, more weather-based energy systems with increased need for flexibility, and more complex energy markets. These drivers have proven robust through shifting market conditions and increased geopolitical concerns.
With our current portfolio and competitive strengths, Statkraft is well-positioned to seize the opportunities arising from the energy transition – creating value by enabling a net-zero future.
Statkraft’s corporate strategy was renewed in 2025 to reflect a changing world and a more complex energy market.
The energy transition is still moving forward. But the pace is slower than expected, and the market conditions have shifted. Power price forecasts are lower. Costs are higher. And the need for flexibility and competitiveness is greater than ever.
We contribute to the green transition by developing, operating and owning renewable energy assets, strengthening security of energy supply, and enabling well-functioning energy markets. Through our activities, we support economic development, reduce emissions, and help ensure a stable and affordable energy supply in the countries where we operate.
Going forward we will streamline our portfolio and operations – focusing our efforts on fewer technologies and fewer markets. We prioritise profitability over volume growth. We invest where we have a competitive advantage. And we create value by developing, operating and owning renewable energy assets and by delivering market solutions that support the energy transition.
Our strategy is shaped by three ambitions:

A competitive developer of renewable assets
Prioritising:
- Hydropower development in Nordics
- Development of onshore wind, solar and battery and grid services in Nordics, Europe and South America
- Technologies and projects with shorter time to cash flow

A value-maximising owner and operator of our asset fleet
Prioritising:
- Strategically owning and developing a balanced and diversified portfolio of flexible and intermittent assets, catering to future market needs. Primarily hydropower, onshore wind, solar and battery and grid services
- Delivering top-performing market solutions to our assets, including energy and asset exposure management
- Continuing safe and secure operations
- Being an active owner of our Industrial ownership portfolio
- Increasing focus on optimisation of long-term target portfolio, within and across markets

An industry-leading provider of market solutions
Prioritising:
- Strengthening our industry-leading Trading & Origination business
- Helping both energy producers and consumers manage market risks through tailored hedging solutions
- Continuously adapting our offering to evolving customer needs and new market entrants

Looking ahead
This strategy sets a clear direction for Statkraft in a more challenging energy market. We will focus our efforts where we are strongest, invest where we can create the most value, and run our operations with discipline and long-term perspective.
In the years to come, we will:
- Grow in selected markets and technologies where we have a competitive edge
- Strengthen our financial performance by prioritising profitability and cash flow
- Continue to deliver reliable, renewable energy and market solutions that support the energy transition
Even as the world changes, our role remains clear: to be a leading force in renewable energy — creating value for our owner, our partners, and society.
