Statkraft is one of the largest traders in the European energy market and an important actor internationally. We trade energy and commodities in more than 20 countries and are active on 13 energy exchanges.
Pillars of our activities
Market access
We sell the power generated by our own hydropower and solar plants, wind farms, biomass and gas-fired power plants and offer 24/7 market access as a service for other power generators, optimising our own and third-party revenues for intermittent and flexible assets.
Power supply and hedging
We implement power supply and hedging strategies for energy consumers such as industries, corporations and energy suppliers through bilateral agreements and market-based approaches.
Proprietary trading
Our teams trade for the account of Statkraft to provide additional knowledge and revenue streams. Besides power, our traders buy and sell global gas, oil, oil products, metals and dry bulk and analyse cross-commodity influences on the power market.

Our first nature was to strive for the heights of the waterfalls in 1895 to turn its force into power. Performance is our second nature: turning power into optimised revenue streams.
Superior trading platform for renewable generators and flexible assets
Statkraft Unity, our in-house platform, allows more than 15 GW of our customers’ intermittent renewable generation to be scheduled seamlessly into the market place across Europe. Our customers benefit from resulting revenues without needing to build their own expensive infrastructure.
